Gas Fireplaces Salt Lake: Welcome note for the winter

Winter is knocking at the doors of autumn in Utah and Salt Lake. People here, in Utah and Salt Lake, started to feel the little cold in breezes. As the season is changing, they need to prepare for the upcoming winters. They would be freeze otherwise.

In the traditional wood fireplace, most of the heat generated by them; escaped through the chimney. As, the excessive amount of air produced is being sucked up through the chimney, it results further air suck in, inside the room from outer atmosphere. Consequently, the rooms farthest from the fireplace are being cooled. Thus, they are not energy efficient at all.Gas fireplace in Utah and Salt Lake are gaining rapid acceptance among the residents theses days. Actually gas fireplace draw their gas that is usually Propane from regular gas supply lines. These gas fireplaces are almost smokeless and for get them lit, you only need to turn a knob or flick a switch on the wall and there is a cozy fire in the fireplace. With a gas fireplace, you do not need to mess with bringing the heavy and dirty logs into the home. People in Utah and Salt Lake, are enjoying their gas fireplace, as by using them; they do not require the immediate cleaning of the fireplace. While; with a traditional wood fireplace, people had to clean up not only the bark and dirt fall off, but also the ashes from burning.Hence, with a time saving gas fireplace, you can get nice radiant heat in the immediate. In addition, there is no air lose is going to the exterior. In Utah and Salt Lake, people are ready to welcome the winters open heartily.

Individual traditional and contemporary fires and fireplaces to suit all tastes; ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE

IF you want to create a stunning focal point for your living space, then take a look at all the great designs now available at Fireplace Superstore in nearby Birstall.

One of the range of stoves now on display at the Birstall showroom Pictured (above) contemporary hole-in-the-wall fires and (below) the Birstall showroomA few weeks ago my daughters and I were driving back from the Springs to Woodland Park and it truly was the first time we noticed the many tents and homeless near Eighth Street and Cimmaron. A few days later we read the article Barry Noreen wrote in The Gazette on the homeless. We knew as a family we could help in some way. Last Sunday we made up lunches, gathered up a sleeping bag, scarves, sweatshirts, hats, gloves and drove down there. We walked down the embankment when a woman by the name of Maggie, who lives there, met us and took us along the creek to distribute the items. She knew everyone by name and the reasons why each ended up homeless. We talked and gave hugs to the people we met and told them we would be back. We have been back twice since then, bringing barrels of firewood and food. The first time we were there the fire and ambulance crew were giving aid and a lot of compassion to a man who lost all feeling in his feet and lower legs. These people are cold, hungry, and some are dying out there. They are so appreciative for whatever help we can give them. What seems so little to us is so much to them. If you are able to help in any small way, please do.CAPTION(S):With around 100 traditional and contems porary fires and fireplaces on permanent display, these great choices add style and value to your home without costing a fortune.Doctors & nurses volunteerKimberly ThorntonMel DownsI do not feel that the city should hire someone to clean up after and monitor these people, but provide a portable toilet and a place to set up their tents, maybe one security guard to make sure it is a safe environment. Whatever the cure, I hope that it is fair to all of us, the taxpayer, the city residents and business owners, and the homeless.Colorado Springs.

Walk into the showroom and you''ll first of all see a display of multi-fuel and wood burning stoves, all of which are live working examples. Enter the main display area and you''ll find fireplaces created from marble, wood, limestone, stone effect and much more.Primary concerns to me are: 1. Whenever I think about camping, that's the setting I think of. The campsites along the Front Range Trail are addressed here. Maybe we've gone a little overboard on providing all the open space and other amenities for the "elite" people in our community at the peril of the down-trodden. Surely we can do better. Where are all those "Christians" I keep hearing about, and their helping others mentality? As a 67-year-old, recently retired hospice nurse with 19-plus years with Pikes Peak Hospice, I needed to find another practice with "heart and soul" to volunteer with in order to feel that I had a meaningful link with my community. I was thrilled to discover the S.E.T. clinical opportunities available to those of us who have active licenses and want to remain connected. The "Homeless Clinic" sponsored by S.E.T. at the Soup Kitchen/Marian House on Bijou is staffed by volunteer physicians and nurses who volunteer at the clinic. We process as many as 15 or as few as eight, depending on the day, providing them with expert medical care (the doctors are often coming from the emergency rooms at the local hospitals or are, like me, recently retired). We also provide medication and some simple treatments at times to stabilize a condition. We also refer them to other clinics (Peak Vista Mission, Medical and others) if they need a more complete work-up.Woodland ParkSeveral years ago our church was doing some outreach to the homeless, and one of the items that was very popular and appreciated by them was jerky. My husband does a lot of hunting, and we have plenty of venison, some of which we make into jerky. It is very practical for the homeless since it doesn't spoil easily, is lightweight, and can provide a much-needed source of protein. Since my daughters and husband have all gotten elk this year, we plan to make an extra large batch of jerky soon and share it with the homeless. Additionally, we, like many other households, have a gas fireplace, and don't really need the firewood that is stacked by our house. We plan to take our extra firewood to a "tent city" and distribute it, or contact the Colorado Springs Police Department or Springs Rescue Mission to get ideas for how to distribute both the jerky and the firewood.I would be willing to volunteer time and donate money toward helping out.

Best Practices Can Prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Fuel-burning space heaters and portable generators used during cold weather months can release harmful carbon monoxide (CO) gas. CDC reports that CO poisoning sends more than 20,000 people to emergency rooms and claims nearly 400 lives each year. ADT Security Services offers several tips to prevent CO poisoning in homes:

This problem is not going away. Instead of trying to sweep it under the carpet, how about creating a formal shantytown. Suppose the city were to put a fence around a piece of property, like the block bordered by West Cimmaron and South Sierra Madre. Inside the fenced area would be a grid system that allows the homeless to erect their structures in an orderly fashion. Internal to the complex can be portable restrooms and running water - even portable showers are possible. This site is chosen because of it's proximity to Wal- Mart, Marian Soup Kitchen, Red Cross, the walk along the creek, and its distance from other residences.Just two paychecks awayI propose a designated area for homeless camps. I noticed a beautiful site on the north side of the trail and east of South Nevada that would be wonderful. It looked to me like an old trailer park. It wouldn't take much to clean it up and lay out specific campsites. It would require rules for usage and violation of the rules would result in eviction. If living along the creek continues to be allowed, rules should apply as well. Solutions, by the numbers: 1. Porta Potties should be stationed at reasonable intervals; 2. Trash Dumpsters should be placed at convenient locations; 3. Install spring-loaded (can't be left on) water faucets; 4. Provide firewood (good supply from city foresting operations); 5. The only solution here is to move the camps to a location away from the creek or build isolation fences (similar to the sound barriers along I-25.Thanks for taking our input.

*Install at least one carbon monoxide detector on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.

Simulation and experimental investigation of condensation in residential venting

INTRODUCTION

1. A volumetric reaction is defined through macros in the source code, which is preferential over a surface reaction to minimize the numerical instability caused by large intra-cell gradients. As water vapor is a small fraction of the overall flue gas and the fraction that condenses3. Proportional to the water vapor mass condensing, there is a latent heat release for that cell.is even smaller, gradients from cell face to cell face will be very large, causing solver oscillations.A major market barrier to upgrading the efficiency of or fuel-switching with a heating system is the cost associated with the chimney liner and its installation. According to one utility's cost breakdown, the chimney liner constitutes 25% of the total conversion cost of fuel-switching. This conversion is subject to provisions of both NFPA 54 National Fuel Gas Code (NFGC) and NFPA 211 Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents and Solid Fuel Burning Appliances. This is, however, in contrast to the costs brought upon by pitting corrosion, vent failure, and potential for unsafe venting of products of combustion (DeWerth, 1983). With respect to pertinent codes, it is the responsibility of both the regulators and regulated community to periodically re-examine the underlying assumptions and technical process behind standing code guidance. The research community may aid in the process, as with any unresolved technical issues that arise in that applicable code and installation practice evaluation can be addressed by modeling and possibly laboratory investigation to justify those code compliance interpretations.MODEL DEVELOPMENT AND ASSUMPTIONSOur showroom opening times are Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5.30pm, Sunday 11am to 4pmA number of showroom special offers are always available. Call in and see us -you won''t be disappointed. The objective in using CFD modeling is to use a sophisticated tool selected both to compare to VENT-II simulation results and experimental data, while exploring the venting dynamics of gas-fired boilers versus relative to that of fan-assisted furnaces, the subject of prior study and the venting tables. VENT-II is a one dimensional nodal model, solving a reduced form of the Navier-Stokes equations and a semi-empirical condensation model at the interior flue surface. In addition to cycling and ambient conditions, boundary conditions at the appliance outlets characterize flue gas properties relative to user-defined cycling, temperature profiles, firing rates, and percentage of excess air. FLUENT version 6.3 is the CFD simulation software used, with turbulence modeled using the k-[epsilon] model. The fluid domain includes the chimney interior and the ambient surroundings, primarily included for solution stability, and the solid domain is the chimney itself for heat transfer modeling. Sensitivity of condensation results to meshing of the chimney interior was explored, which is shown in Figure 1 in addition to this computational domain. Each simulation and chimney configuration utilized this mesh.In the current study, the project team conducted a technical evaluation and laboratory investigation of factors affecting venting requirements for gas vent systems in a representative utility service territory fuel-switching, thus vent system upgrades, are more common, the U.S. Northeast. Focusing on the potential for relining requirements during these upgrades, this study considers venting systems with masonry chimneys. Hydronic (hot water) boilers are prevalent in this region, which were treated as equivalent to furnaces in the original development of the NFGC (Philips, 1994):We are able to offer a full fitting service, carried out by fully qualified Gas Safe and H.E.T.A.S. engineers.Whether you simply want to change the trim on your fire or are looking to create a truly bespoke, individual fireplace we are here to help and guide you.Initial screening CFD results that do not directly model condensation show order of magnitude agreements with the VENT-II analysis, there are known gaps in modeling physics concerning the mass and heat transfer associated with condensation. The source code of FLUENT is not accessible for modification; however it offers many so-called 'access points' where users may program additional physical models to be included with those built-in. This is how condensation is directly modeled, with customizable physical models. To directly model surface condensation in CFD, a so-called User Defined Function (UDF) is programmed which models condensation as a volumetric reaction rate coupled with the latent energy source/sink. To prevent numerical instabilities and solution divergence in the implementation of a UDF during CFD simulation, a simplified approach is taken to the UDF formulation. In brief, the UDF is defined as follows:At the Fireplace Centre we understand how important it is to create a stylish and relaxing living environment.Higher efficient gas-fired appliances in Category I venting systems are more likely to result in condensation within exterior masonry chimneys. The use of vent dampers with hot water boilers reduces the off-cycle flow significantly, reducing the ability of the vent system to dry out between on-cycles. Additionally, boilers with vent dampers have different off-cycle flow characteristics than the furnaces used to develop the Category I appliance venting tables in the NFGC (hereafter referred to as "venting tables").Following initial confirmation that CFD modeling techniques to be used showed good agreement with the software used in the development of the venting tables, VENT-II, a parametric matrix for CFD modeling, was developed and refined in cooperation with the primary UTD sponsor. The metric used to determine agreement is the presence of net surface condensation on the chimney interior, continuously "wet" or "dry" conditions. The parametric modeling matrix incorporates typical physical and operating conditions seen in areas where oil-fired appliances are prevalent, namely the Northeastern U.S.You can find us at Northonthorpe Mills, Wakefield Road, Scissett. The metric used to determine agreement is the presence of net surface condensation on the chimney interior, continuously "wet" or "dry" conditions. The parametric modeling matrix incorporates typical physical and operating conditions seen in areas where oil-fired appliances are prevalent, namely the Northeastern U.S.

[FIGURE 1 OMITTED]Simulation Strategy & Boundary ConditionsPerformance is assessed primarily through numerical modeling, both using VENT-II and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). VENT-II software was developed for the Gas Research Institute (GRI) during the original development of the venting tables (DeWerth, 1983). FLUENT version 6.3 is used for CFD, modeling fluid flow, heat transfer, and phase change. As VENT-II is a simpler 1-D modeling tool with a Graphical User Interface (GUI), it has been a useful tool in venting research. With its finer resolution and more sophisticated algorithms, CFD is used to assess the relative veracity of VENT-II in modeling venting systems for varied boiler efficiency, firing rate, ambient condition, number of exposed chimney walls, and presence of chimney liner. Simulation results are compared with experimental data from a full-scale test masonry chimney, using the metric Boolean continuously "wet" or "dry" conditions as used in the NFGC.In the baselining of this condensation modeling methodology, a non-compliant common venting of a fan-assisted furnace and natural-draft gas-fired water heater into both interior and exterior masonry chimneys is simulated with VENT-II and CFD. Comparing these simulation results, the interior and exterior masonry chimney simulations result in net condensation gains within the chimney segment above the roofline within 43% and 22% of each other (with CFD showing consistent overestimation), showing order of magnitude agreement. As the primary criteria of simulation-based venting table development was the Boolean "wet" or "not wet", this agreement is sufficient, and this modeling method was adopted.* The cycle rate at 50-percent load is 2 cycles per hour for a boiler (this directly affects furnace on-times as well), and* A boiler is typically equipped with a draft hood and a stack damper.2. Reviewing similarly employed condensation models in the literature, they fit into one of three categories in increasing complexity: simple mass flux, mass diffusion via an empirical diffusivity, and heat diffusion based upon film or drop-wise condensation on various geometries. After performing extensive modeling of flue gas condensation, Perujo et al. (2004) found that for a sufficiently fine mesh, the mass flux and mass diffusion models yield similar results within 10% of one another, which due to its simplicity was selected (Perujo, 2004). This model states conservatively that water vapor in excess of the saturated cell condition will condense. This is determined after calculating the water vapor saturation pressure at each cell (ASHRAE 2009), the actual and saturated water vapor concentration is determined.

With more than 50 years' combined experience in the gas industry, this family-run business uses its own Gas Safe registered engineers to carry out installations from boiler changeovers to complete heating systems.A professor at the University of Orleans in France, Czernichowski realized in 1986 that a branch of science called non-equilibrium cold plasma could be used to produce new transportation fuels that are less polluting than their conventional counterparts as they lack harmful substances found in traditional transportation fuels.Czernichowski noted that the reactors, about the size of a refrigerator, are custom designed to clean the dirty gases produced by low-tech gasification of locally available wastes, biomass, or other resources and produce a clean mix of carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas to synthesize biofuels. Corn farming regions, for instance, could use corn stover as the raw material. In urban areas, waste cooking oil from restaurants could be the raw material. In regions that produce biodicscl fuel, glycerol could be converted into clean fuels. Czernichowski pointed out that production of biofuels results in huge amounts of glycerol byproduct--91 kg (200 lb) for every 907 kg (2,000 lb) of biodiesel. The glycerol is expensive to refine to the high purity needed for commercial use. GlidArc reactors could transform glycerol into a clean synthesis gas (carbon monoxide and hydrogen) for production of fuels, he said. Most display models on the shop floor are flat-packed to take away. Process in big-screen plasma TVs can produce ultra-clean fuel

"Low-tech and low cost are the guiding principles behind the GlidArc reactors," said Albin Czernichowski, who presented the report. "Almost all the parts could be bought at your local hardware or home supply store. We use common 'plumber' piping and connections, for instance, and ordinary home insulation. Instead of sophisticated ceramics, we use the kind of heat-resistant concrete that might go into a home fireplace. You could build one in a few days for about $10,000."

"We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle."Our product is simple," he said. "If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new five-year guarantee. If you're looking for discount furniture, Havana Furniture on Norham Road, North Shields, is the place to visit. It specialises in bankrupt, end of line, retail seconds and display models with up to 70% off. "The main advantage of such biobased fuels that the GlidArc technology can create is that they constitute 'drop-in replacements' for fossil diesel oil, gasoline, or kerosene, and no modifications are needed in engines, vehicles, and distribution systems," Czernichowski said. "The biofuels can also be used as additives to various types of engine fuels to improve certain fuel properties. Another important advantage, of course, is their much lower toxicity for people and the environment compared to conventional fuels. It sells solid woods and laminates including Pergo and Quickstep, as well as a wide range of carpets. Annual Chimney Inspection Appointments Encouraged During National Chimney Safety Week September 26 – October 2, 2010

PLAINFIELD, Ind. -- The National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG) reminds homeowners to schedule annual chimney inspections before using fireplaces and wood stoves this season. Annual chimney inspections allow the chimney sweep to note cracks, creosote buildup or other obstructions which may diminish the functionality of the system and create an environment where chimney fires or carbon monoxide intrusion are likely.

Easy Fireplace is a recommended retailer for all products sold so you can rely on a full warranty and back up service - buy with confidence and see the product your buying rather than buying online! The National Fire Prevention Association estimates that 25 percent of home heating fires are caused primarily by creosote buildup in the chimney. NFPA additionally recommends that all chimneys serving gas or wood-burning appliances are inspected on an annual basis.

The National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG) is a 501 (c) 6 non-profit trade association existing to promote the success of its members by providing progressive services, encouraging professionalism and ethical accountability, and advancing the chimney and venting industry through public awareness of the trade.

You first need to understand that the cost of your four seasons sunroom kit will depend upon your own specifications and needs. If you are going to be building on an existing patio or deck, then you will find that your cost will be less than having to choose a location and build a foundation. If you are building your four seasons sunroom from scratch, then you will first need to determine where you want to put it and then you will have to prepare the location for your construction of the sunroom. This will take more work and effort, but you can do this yourself if you do choose or you could have a contractor come in just for this part of the process so that you will have a proper foundation on which to build. How to determine the value of raw landHere are (or can be) a few drawbacks that are sometimes associated with raw land:
  1. Negative cash flow; usually the land does not generate any income while you pay the principle, interest, taxes and costs of development.
  2. Tax advantages are scanty as land cannot be depreciated.
  3. Generally, raw land is considered a long-term ill-liquid investment that often takes time before gains can be realized.
  4. Risk of loss on resale can occur if you choose poorly, fail to evaluate and negotiate properly, the economy slips or various other unforeseen events occur.
  5. It is difficult to obtain traditional financing on or borrow against accrued equity.
Youll want answers to questions like those above and county officials such as planning and zoning, community development and building departments are a good place to start. I would also call utility companies about water, sewer, electric and phone, and talk to neighbors, contractors, developers, real estate agents, appraisers and a local surveyor to have some of the more important questions addressed at the beginning of my search. I wouldnt rely on the sellers to be all-knowing, either.Water availability is essential and is often desired for aesthetics as well as drinking, bathing, washing, cooking, cleaning, toilet facilities and watering vegetation. We also enjoy lakes, rivers and streams for recreation. Others enjoy the tranquil sounds that our streams, rivers and oceans can provide. Without a doubt, water availability is a major concern. Note: A 1666 square foot roof can capture 1000 gallons of water for each inch of rainfall; cisterns of all types have existed since the dawn of man.
